I truly, deeply believe that any woman can overcome anything and become their best self. I believe it is our purpose in this lifetime to be our best, most powerful self, and we aren’t doing the world any favors by holding back. To paraphrase Brene Brown, at the end of your life do you want to be looking back and wonder what your life could have been like if you had dared greatly instead of playing it safe? I want to help you overcome your struggles with your body image, physical or mental health, release your fears about succeeding in life, and offer the world the gifts you were put here on earth to share.
I have struggled with depression and anxiety most of my life, and it mostly came from my belief that my body wasn’t good enough and therefore I wasn’t good enough. I tried to drown out the overwhelming feelings of shame with a variety of compulsive behaviors such as binge eating, emotional eating, alcohol and substance abuse. Ironically it was my desire to lose weight that was the beginning of my journey to naturally healing my both my mental and physical health; I started by making small little changes to my diet, then slowly adding in some light activity, which in and of itself took me out of the worst of my depression (and off of antidepressants) over a pretty short period of time. From there I have learned many cognitive and behavioural re-patterning techniques that have freed me from my perfectionist, negative, and self- critical thinking so I know I will never go back to that place. I now understand the tangled web of how our thoughts and body/self image work together to either create a joyous happy life, or one so miserable we feel like we can’t go on. By overcoming depression I was able to start opening the doors to becoming my authentic self, and begin to create my dream life.
I now feel very strongly that as a culture women are being kept down and powerless because we have been indoctrinated with this idea that we have to be and look perfect (it’s no coincidence the diet, cosmetic surgery and beauty industry make billions and billions off of our feelings of inadequacy). This pisses me off. I can only imagine how much time and energy of my life I have wasted obsessing over my body when I could have been using that mental energy to create something positive for the world. And I know I’m not the only woman who has experienced this. Oh and guess what, it’s when I quit obsessing and trying to lose weight – and instead learned to love and accept my body, and eat in a way that shows my love and respect for my body – that’s when my body settled in at my natural weight. I passionately feel it is now my duty to share this with the women of the world, and help bring us up to our rightful, powerful position in society. At the World Peace Summit the Dalai Lama said “the world will be saved by the western woman,” and I believe if we want there to still be a livable planet for our future generations, the time to act is now!
Whether your goal is to find your way to confidence, happiness, learning to look after yourself because you want to (not because you ‘have to’), regaining mental and/or physical health, or a one way ticket off of the diet crazy train, I know I can help you find your path. I have a lifetime of personal experience as well as the knowledge and experience I have gained at the Institute of Integrative Nutrition to help you on your journey. I believe that life should not be about white knuckling yourself into eating healthy and exercising, but that once you see yourself as someone amazing and valuable (because you are!!) then those things just happen as a side effect and don’t take up ALL your mental space anymore. Just imagine what you would accomplish!! By working on this myself I have become a bright positive person that is driven to help bring others up to their absolute best! I would be thrilled to lovingly guide and support you in learning how to be successful on your path to becoming your authentic, happy, full-on self you were meant to be.
